38 Vita sancti Iuliani confessoris.
SEint Iulian þe confessour : was i-bore at rome;
Muche folk þoruȝ is prechingue : cristine heo bi-come.
Of noble kunne he was i-come : and renable he was i-nouȝ;
After þe Apostles he cam sone : and muche folk to guode droȝ.

In-to a cite he was i-sent : þe prechour guod and trewe,
Ase a-postel for-to prechi : þe ȝwile cristinedom was newe.
Cristinedom was þo vnwurþe : in þulke cite þere :
gret scorn heo hadden of alle þulke : þat icristnede were,

And alle þat speken of cristinedom : heo defouleden heom i-nouȝ.
In Aunter him dude þis holie man : and þuder-ward ȝuyt him drouȝ,
And a-mong heom he cam wel mildeliche : and prechede faste a-non.
Þat folk drof to busemare : þe meste del ech-on;

Ake ore louerd sende him grace : and fair miracle for him wrouȝte,
And þat folk þoruȝ is prechingue : to cristinedom he brouȝte.
Ore louerd him ȝaf so fair grace : þat with one worde he miȝte
helen Meoseles and guidie Men : and þe blinde ȝiuen heore siȝte;

Þare nas no-manere vuel : nouȝwer þare he cam gon,
Þoruȝ þe vertue of þe croiz : þat he ne helde heom [al. om.] a-non.
So þat he tornede to cristine-dom : al þat folk þare-a-boute;
And siweden him al-so in-to al þat lond : of heom wel grete route.

So þat heo comen in one stude : a-þurst heo weren wel sore;
heo nusten ȝware to drinke come : it greuede heom ful sore : [al. þe more]
heo criden alle on seint Iulian : þat he sum drinke heom founde.
