(a) Naturally endowed with venom, capable of introducing or injecting a toxic substance by means of a bite, sting, etc.; venomous, deadly; also in fig. context; of a bite, dragon’s breath, etc.: poisonous; (b) naturally infused with a poisonous substance, toxic, lethal; (c) treated, smeared, or mixed with poison, envenomed; also in fig. context; (d) infected, corrupt, diseased; pestilential, pernicious, virulent; of a wound, an abscess: purulent, festering; also in fig. context [quot. c1450(1410)]; (e) as noun: poisons; also, ?infections, abscesses [could also be construed as pl. of venim n.].
