About

The University of Michigan's James and Anne Duderstadt Center is a center of engaged learning. It opened in 1996 as a special place to provide faculty and students with the tools and collaborative space for creating the future. Located on the University of Michigan North Campus, the Duderstadt Center houses the Art, Architecture, and Engineering Library, the College of Engineering Computer Aided Engineering Network (CAEN), the Digital Media Commons, and the Millennium Project, the building provides a nexus for creative and technological innovation across disciplines.

Process: An Anthology of Student Experiments in Media and Technology gave students using the resources of the Duderstadt Center a venue to reflect on their work in writing, and thereby to enhance pedagogical outcomes. Student authors came to understand the scholarly publishing lifecycle, and an author’s role at each stage, including authoring, submission, review, revision, copyediting, design, and production, and became familiar with the components of a high quality scholarly publication, which became part of their online academic or professional profile.
