(a) A loathsome action, an odious or detestable custom or practice; also, a practice so regarded [quot. (a1387)]; don ~, to commit loathsome sins; (b) worship of pagan gods, esp. idolatry.

(a) A loathsome thing, something offensive or detestable; also, a loathsome state or condition; (b) an idol or other symbol of pagan worship; ~ of (into) desolacioun (discomfort), a profaning or desecrating object, a sacrilegious idol; fig. desecration [last two quots.].
