(a) A place of Christian worship other than a parish church or cathedral; an oratory; (b) a chapel subordinate to a mother-church; (c) fre ~, a chapel founded by the king or by his authority, not subject to the jurisdiction of the ordinary (such as a bishop); children of the chapel, choristers of the king's chapel.
