(a) To be or become angry, rage; also in fig. context [quot. a1500(a1400)]; of God: be or become righteously wrathful; of a person, God, etc.: be angry (with sb. or sth.); fig. of the sea: rage, storm [quot. c1300, 1st]; (b) of wrath (usu. divine): to be kindled; be kindled (against sb. or sth.), rage; (c) to quarrel; quarrel (with sb.); (d) to be angry with (sb.); (e) refl. to be or become angry or righteously wrathful; also used of nature [quot. c1450 Pilgr.LM]; be angry (with sb. or sth.); (f) impers. him (you) wrattheth, he becomes (you become) angry.
