(a) A payment of money, money received; (b) the coming into possession of land, a kingdom, etc.; (c) the receiving of something in the manner of a container; place of ~, ~ place, a place for receiving or storing something, receptacle; (d) the partaking of food and drink; (e) the taking of the sacramental elements or holy water; receiving a sacrament.

(a) The obtaining of virtues; also, the receiving of the Holy Ghost; (b) the suffering of a blow; (c) being subjected to heat.
