(a) To violate the sanctity of (a church, tabernacle, altar, etc.), desecrate; profane (God's name); sully (an institution), taint; defile (the marriage bed); (b) ppl. polluted, ceremonially unclean, profane; as noun: that which is ceremonially unclean or profane; (c) ppl. polluted, unchaste -- also said of a woman's womb; (d) to defile (sb. or sth., one's conscience); ppl. polluted, spiritually tainted or impure, sinful; (e) ben polluted, to have an involuntary discharge of semen.
