(a) A knot or lump in the flesh or fleshy organ; (b) a plug or pellet used in performing a cautery; cauterie to the ~, cauterie ad nodulum, a cauterizing procedure in which a plug or pellet is used [cp. knotti 5. (d)]; (c) a kind of cauterizing instrument, perh. one used with a pellet or plug.
