Modifying an adj.: (a) very; ful (to) ~, extremely; ~ ilich, ~ lik (to, unto, very similar (to; so ~, so much, so very; just as; (b) ben as ~ worth, of a foreign term: to mean the equivalent (of sth.), be translatable (as sth.); also, signify (sth.), mean (sth.) allegorically; [cp. much(e n. 3. (a), (b)].

Modifying a comp. adj.: much: (a) ~ gretter (richer, werse, wrother, etc.), far greater (richer, worse, angrier, etc.); ful ~ lesse, conspicuously smaller; ~ more, considerably larger, much greater (more); (b) with the: ~ the bettre (bigger, lesse, more, etc.), much the better (greater, etc.); that much better (greater, etc.); accordingly much better (greater, etc.).

Modifying an adv.: afer as ~, as far away; ~ homli, in a very familiar manner.

Modifying a comp. adv.: much: (a) ~ bettre, far better; ~ ferther, much farther; ~ lesse, much less, even less, much less important; ~ more, even more, still more; to a far greater degree or extent; (b) with the: ben so ~ the lesse moiste, ben so ~ the more perilous, to be accordingly less moist (more perilous); so) ~ the bettre (more, wodlier, etc.), accordingly (so) much better (more, etc.); better (more, etc.) to (such) a considerable degree; etc.

(a) Modifying an inf. or a ppl.: much, thoroughly; ~ meving, constantly moving; ~ to blamen (preisen), very blameworthy (praiseworthy); ~ to drinken, to drink excessively, excessive drinking; caused ~, chiefly caused; (b) as ~, as seriously, as much (as sb. or sth.); ben made ~ of, ben ~ made of, of a person: to be feted, be lavishly attended to [cp. much(e n. 4. (b)]; ben to ~ ismit, of a disease: be fatally advanced (in sb.); ful ~, in all details, in every respect; so ~, so greatly, so much; to such an extent.

Modifying a prep. phrase or a clause: considerably, extensively; generally, largely; frequently, often; to a great degree; as ~; as ~ as of him (in hem) is, to the extent that he (they) can [cp. much(e n. 2. (c)]; so ~, so far along (toward death); so ~ in lore, so very learned; to ~, excessively.
