[1] AES, DNA NR RG 48, Department of Interior, Appointments, Indian Agencies, Box 62. Lincoln's endorsement appears on a letter of James H. Lane, Sidney Clarke, and Samuel J. Crawford, March 7, 1865, recommending M. R. Dutton of Oskaloosa, Kansas, for agent of the Kickapoo Indians. No record of Dutton's appointments has been found.
