- Possibly contemporary inscription in green colored pencil on verso of image plate: N.B. Chippindale, Detroit Mich. 1853 Dean.
- Non-contemporary pencil inscription on verso of image plate: Killed before Atlanta July 28/64. Possibly erroneous.
