Handwritten note on verso in what appears to be Portugese, "A minha querida Maria Luiza do [?] Bill."
Collection includes photographic prints from the 19th and 20th centuries. Nineteenth century photographs are studio portraits, with subjects including William Whittemore-Low Jr., Julie Fowler Parmelee, Lewis C. Parmelee; Henry L. Peck; Henry Wentworth Low. Ten of the studio portraits were taken in Lisbon, Portugal; 7 were taken in Germany, and 2 of Henry L. Peck were taken in Nagasaki, Japan. One item of particular interest is a 1861 photo by the Mathew Brady studio of 7 Union soldiers gathered at the entrance of a camp tent with sign "Sumpter House." Ms. note on verso: "Sumter House," Camp Cameron, 7th Regiment, N.Y. May, 1861." One of the men pictured is Lewis C. Parmelee (1838-1862). Twentieth century prints include reproductions of earlier portraits, shipboard travel, and vacation scenes at unnamed locales.
Photographers include: Burwell & Homan (New Haven, Conn.); Charles Claflin (Worcester, Mass.); Warren's (New Haven, Conn.); O.N. Hull (New Haven); H. Ruick (Norwalk, Conn.).
