- At right, Abraham Lincoln is sitting on top of a woodpile labeled "Republican Platform." A derogatory rendering of a grinning African American man looks out from inside the woodpile. Lincoln says, "Little did I think when I split these rails, that they would be the means of elevating me to my present position." In front of the woodpile, Horace Greeley is confronted by "Young America." Greeley reassures the young man, "I assure you my friend that you can safely vote our ticket, for we have no connection with the Abolitionist party, but our Platform is composed entirely of rails split by our candidate."
- "Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1860, by Currier & Ives, in the Clerk's Office of the District Court for the Southern Distt. of N.Y."
