The Vice-President in charge of business and finance filed a
progress report on plant extension.
He said the Thompson Street Parking Structure had opened its
first two floors on December 20 and would be completely in use by
January; that all aspects of the Oxford Housing Project were satisfactory; that the Research Buildings will be occupied in the spring;
that the Animal Research Center facility will also be occupied in the
spring; that the Institute of Science and Technology Building has
progressed to the point that heat will be in the structure during the
winter so that it may be completed; that work is progressing in a slow
but continuous manner on the University Hospital Physical Medicine
and Central Services; that the Physics and Astronomy Building should
be completed in the spring; that the School of Music Building is on
schedule including the road approaches and the parking lot area.
The Vice-President also reported that plans have been completed
and submitted to contractors for construction bids of the Lawrence D.
Buhl Research Center for Human Genetics; and that planning is under
way for the Museums Building Addition, for the Kresge Medical Research Building Addition, and for the Dearborn Center Housing.
On the recommendation of the Vice-President in charge of business
and finance, the Regents approved the project budget for the Lawrence
D. Buhl Research Center for Human Genetics, in the amount of
$513,600, as detailed below (pp. 579, 577, and 269). The contract was
awarded to the low bidder, A. Z. Shmina and Sons of Dearborn.

Compliance Report After hearing a report on the Compliance Report on Nondiscrimination Provisions of United States Government Contracts by the
Vice-President in charge of business and finance, the Regents authorized a count of the Negroes employed by the University; that the
count be made on a visual check by department heads and supervisors; and that the information thus compiled be incorporated in an
amended Compliance Report to the President's Committee on Equal
Employment Opportunity.
