Scutt, Secretary, College of Architecture and Design, from March 11 to March 31, 1941, without salary The sum of $1,500 was appropriated as an addition to the budget for Miscellaneous Printing for the present year. The sum of $6,000 was added to the budget of the Summer Session of 1941 to provide special programs of instruction, one in Eaton County and one in Calhoun County. The cost will not ultimately come out of University funds as it is guaranteed up to $6,000 by the W. K. Kellogg Foundation, and the Director of the Summer Session will not authorize expenditures beyond $6,000. The W. K. Kellogg Foundation was accorded a vote of thanks for this further co-operation with the work of the University. The Regents approved the following trust-fund budgets as recommended by Dean Yoakum (p. 547): Name of Fund: Aaron Mendelson Memorial Research Period: February 1 to June 30, 1941 In Charge: Assistant Professor R. Kahn Source of Funds: Aaron Mendelson Memorial Trust Accepted by Regents: May 24, 1940, p. 302 Purpose of Fund: Research in Tissue Immunity Salaries................................................. $625.00 Expense and Equipment..................................... 300.00 $925.00 Name of Fund: Upjohn Company Fellowship in Clinical Research Period: March 1, 1941, to March 31, 1942 In Charge: Associate Professor Henry Field, Jr. Source of Funds: The Upjohn Company Accepted by Regents: February 21, 1941, p. 540 Purpose of Fund: (See name of fund above) Salaries................................................. $2,700.00 The following fees were approved as recommended by the Committee on Fees (p. 228): A nonreturnable fee of $2.00 to be required of each applicant for admission to the Medical School, effective for freshmen applicants in 1942-1943. A summer session fee for the Dental School, the amount of the fee to be $50 for residents and $75 for nonresidents. The Regents approved space between the building of the Dental School and North Hall as a site for the proposed building for the School of Public Health (p. 535). The Board received the following communication from Dean Furstenberg of the Medical School and established a Department of Human Heredity to be constituted and to operate in accordance with the terms and conditions laid down in Dean Furstenberg's proposal: Request is hereby made by the Laboratory of Vertebrate Genetics to establish a Department of Human Heredity in close association with the Medical School. The proposed Department of Human Heredity shall remain an integral part of the Laboratory of Vertebrate Genetics, but shall be given those rights and privileges in University Hospital enjoyed by the other clinical departments of the Medical School. The purpose of this Clinic shall be to secure the data necessary for the determination of the role which heredity plays in the production of or predisposition to malformations and disease. It is known that heredity is an important factor in human ills, and that a better understanding of its potencies is necessary to a more complete knowledge of the etiology, course, and treatment of many
