384 SEPTEMIBER MEETING, 1940 July 22, 1940 Present, President Ruthven, Regent Cook, and Regent Shields. The committee approved increase in the salary of Donald K. Anderson, Assistant to the Director, University News Service, from $1,800 to $2,000, twelve-month basis, beginning July 1, 1940. The required sum of $200 was appropriated by the committee from general funds. August 5, 1940 Present, President Ruthven, Regent Cook, and Regent Shields. The committee accepted with thanks to the donor the sum of $500 for the "Arthur Andersen Fellowship in Accounting" for the University year 1940-1941 under the terms and conditions shown below. The Arthur Andersen Educational and Research fund, the donor, has been established by Arthur Andersen and Company, a well-known firm of public accountants with headquarters in Chicago, Illinois. 1. Eligibility. Any male student in the School of Business Administration who has completed a minimum of two years' residence at the University of Michigan at the time of the award, and who will have completed, at the time the degree of Master of Business Administration is awarded, courses constituting a major in accounting in accordance with University requirements, shall be eligible for consideration. 2. Awarding of Fellowship. The fellowship shall be awarded by a faculty committee of the School of Business Administration, this committee to consist of the Dean of the School, two accounting instructors, and two other members of the School faculty to be selected by the Dean. 3. Basis of Award. In making the award the faculty committee shall consider the qualities of scholarship, leadership, and promise of future usefulness. Scholarship shall be based on grades obtained in accounting and other subjects for the period of residence previous to the granting of the award. The committee approved the budget of the Lydia Mendelssohn Theater for the fiscal year 1940-1941, as follows (p. 42): Salaries: H. A. Kenyon, Director, for the fiscal year..................... $1,000 E. G. Pascoe, Stage Manager, for the fiscal year................ 1,680 F. C. Otto, Assistant Janitor, for the fiscal year................. 720 Coat-room attendants, hourly basis............................ 200 Extra labor, hourly basis..................................... 165 $3,765 Current Expense and Equipment............................... 1,820 $5,585 This budget is in all respects the same as that for 1939-1940 except that the item for current expense and equipment is greater by $48. August 5, 1940 Present, President Ruthven, Regent Cook, and Regent Shields. The committee approved the transfer of $1,800 from the Woodward Avenue Lease fund to the Centennial Celebration fund as salary for Anne MAacLeod Withrow, who appears on the budget of the Office of the Registrar as Editorial Assistant, for the period from July 1, 1940, to June 30, 1941 (p. 42). August 6, 1940 Present, President Ruthven, Regent Cook, and Regent Shields. On recommendation by the Executive Faculty of the Medical School, the committee approved the appointment of Dr. Malcolm H. Soule to membership in the Executive Committee of the Medical School for the period from September 1, 1940, to August 31, 1943, vice Dr. Howard B. Lewis, whose term has expired (R.P. 1936-1939, p. 346). August 6, 1940 Present, President Ruthven, Regent Cook, and Regent Shields. On recommendation by the Executive Committee of the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts and by Dr. Robert C. Angell, Chairman of the Department of Sociology, the committee appointed Luther Lee Bernard, Ph.D., Professor of Sociology for the second semester of the University year 1940-1941 only, with
