And WHEREAS, The Architect, University Building Committee, and Ann Arbor Trust Co., Trustee for bond holders, have recommended that the contract for Heating & Plumbing Work in the amount of $40,103 be awarded to the Drake Avery Co. And WHEREAS, The Architect, University Building Committee, and Ann Arbor Trust Co., Trustee for bond holders, have recommended that the contract for Electrical Work in the amount of $13,760 be awarded to the Gray Electric Co. Now, therefore, be it Resolved, By The Regents of the University of Michigan That the contract for General Work in the amount of $161,400 be awarded to the Ann Arbor Construction Company. That the contract for Heating and Plumbing Work in the amount of $40,103 be awarded to the Drake Avery Company. That the contract for Electrical Work in the amount of $13,760 be awarded to the Gray Electric Company. That these awards shall not be effective until the awardees have been notified in writing by the Vice-President and Secretary of The Regents of the University of Michigan of the award of the pertinent contract. The following "Resolution Awarding Contract" was adopted (p. 778): Docket No. Mich. 1714-F WHEREAS, The Regents of the University of Michigan in the County of Washtenaw and the State of Michigan pursuant to an advertisement for bids on the demolition of a building on the proposed site of the Men's Dormitory building herebefore published on November 26 and December 3, 1938, did on the 12th day of December at 9:00 A._M. at its office in the City of Ann Arbor, Michigan, receive bids for the demolition at the site of the Men's Dormitory, which said bids were taken under advisement by The Regents of the University of Michigan; and WHEREAS, The base bid of Cuyahoga Wrecking Company is the lowest bid submitted by any responsible bidder; Demolition-Cuyahoga Wrecking Company.......................... $175.00 And WHEREAS, The Architect and the University Building Committee have recommended that the contract be awarded to the Cuyahoga Wrecking Company. Now, therefore, be it Resolved, By The Regents of the University of Michigan, that the contract for demolition of a building on the proposed Men's Dormitory site in the amount of $175.00 be awarded to the Cuyahoga Wrecking Company. That this award shall not be effective until the awardee, has been notified in writing by the Vice-President and Secretary of The Regents of the University of Michigan of the award of the pertinent contract. The following "Resolution Extending the Time for Completion of the Demolition Contract on the Men's Dormitory, Michigan Union Group, P.W.A. Docket No. Mich. 1559-F" was adopted (p. 781): WHEREAS, The Regents of the University of Michigan (hereinafter referred to as the "Owner") and the Capitol City Wrecking Company (hereinafter referred to as the "Contractor") have entered into a contract for the performance of certain work, in connection with the construction of the Men's Dormitory, Michigan Union Group, University of Michigan, Project of the Owner; WHEREAS, It is provided in the said contract that the work shall be complete within 30 calendar days after start of demolition, or November 12, 1938; and WHEREAS, For the reasons hereinafter enumerated, it has become impossible for the Contractor to perform the said contract within the contractual date for completion; viz. REASON DAYS DELAYED Strike.................................... 3 days Rain................................. 1 day Failure of Union labor to report Saturdays...... 4 days Using local unemployed labor rather than imported experienced wreckers............. 3 days Total................................ 11 days WHEREAS, It appears that said Contractor is not legally responsible for suchdelay in the completion of said contract.
