The information required on these documents may come from various sources and will be approved by either Professor Gram or Mr. Christensen or both as occasion may require. Additional drafting and clerical help is to be provided as necessary. Special building committees on the various buildings will be made up of Messrs. Gram and Christensen, with appropriate officials, to be named, particularly interested in such buildings respectively. Dating from October 1, 1938, for the period of the building program or until further action by the Board, the following additions will be made on an annual basis to the regular salaries: Walter Roth, $800, Francis Shiel, $396, and Harold Anderson, $350. Regent Stone was excused. The Regents authorized the presentation to the Social Security Division of the office of the Collector of Internal Revenue in Detroit, of a document prepared by Mr. George J. Burke as attorney for the Regents, setting forth his view of the status under the social security law of certain subdivisions of the University organization. The following resolution was adopted: WHEREAS, The Regents of the University of Michigan, a Constitutional Corporation, of the State of Michigan, desires to secure for the necessary use of the University of Michigan, land adjacent to land now owned by The Regents of the University of Michigan, and particularly as a site for buildings, structures, and grounds for the erection of a dormitory for the housing of students of the University of Michigan, which in the judgment of this Board is and should be an integral part of a broad program of education, and the said corporation does not hold title to sufficient real estate for such purpose and the following described real estate situated and being in the Township of Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County, State of Michigan, has been selected by The Regents of the University of Michigan as a necessary portion of the most available site for such purpose: A part of lot number two in block five south of Huron Street, Range eight east, according to the recorded plat of the Ann Arbor Land Company's addition to the Village (now City) of Ann Arbor, beginning at a point in the west line of said lot two, eleven feet south of the northwest corner of said lot; running thence east parallel with the north line of said lot, seventy nine feet; thence southeast twelve and 728/1000 feet to a point twenty feet south of the north line of said lot and forty four feet west of the east line of said lot as platted; thence east parallel with the north line of said lot forty two feet and four and one-half inches to an old fence; thence south to a point in the south line of said lot two and one-half feet west of the southeast corner of the said lot as platted; thence west along the south line of said lot two, one hundred twenty nine and one-half feet to the place of beginning. Commencing at the northeast corner of lot number 2, block 5 south of Huron Street, Range 8 east, according to the recorded plat of the Ann Arbor Land Company's Addition to the Village (now City) of Ann Arbor, running thence west along the north line of said lot 15 inches; thence south to a point in the south line of said lot 30 inches from the southeast corner thereof; thence east along the south line of said lot 30 inches to the southeast corner; thence north along the east line of said lot to the place of beginning and WHEREAS, Said corporation now owns land immediately adjoining the abovedescribed land, and WHEREAS, Said corporation has endeavored to purchase said above-described land from the owners thereof and is unable to do so at a price which is commensurate with its value, Now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the taking of the above-described land and property be and is hereby declared necessary for the public use of said University and of The Regents of the University of Michigan, and that the Attorney General of the State of Michigan be requested to institute legal proceedings by law to condemn said property and that the Vice-President and Secretary of The Regents of the University of Michigan be authorized and directed to sign and verify in behalf of The Regents of the University of Michigan a petition for the condemnation of such property and all other papers necessary or proper for the conduct of such condemnation proceedings.
