Strauss, Isaac Newton Demmon Professor of English Language and Literature, an alumnus of the University, and an honored member of its faculty for forty-five years. He was a teacher who gladly taught, and whose students brought away from the classroom both the fruits of ripe scholarship and an abiding memory of their association with a wise and friendly spirit. In his character there was much room for affection, none for hate; his loyalties were steadfast, his uprightness unshaken. His life among us will never cease to be a wholesome and inspiring example for his colleagues and students. Be it therefore Resolved, That the Regents record this memorial of Professor Louis A. Strauss in their official Proceedings, and that the Vice-President and Secretary be directed to transmit a copy thereof to Professor Strauss's surviving family, in token of their heartfelt sympathy.
