Proceedings of the Board of Regents (1936-1939)

670 SPECIAL SEPTEMBER MEETING, 1938 Arbor Press, appeared before the Board and reported an amicable settlement of matters in dispute (p. 596) and mutually requested that the Ann Arbor Press be regarded as eligible to do printing for the University. The Regents approved this request with the definite provision that the former contract (p. 596) was not by this action reinstated and that the Ann Arbor Press was by this action placed in the same position as other printing concerns, namely, that of being asked to quote and of being eligible to receive orders for printing when such quotations should justify. The following resolution was adopted (p. 641): Whereas, a thorough investigation has been made of the hourly wage rates which are being paid in the building trades of this locality, in connection with the proposed Public Works Administration Project known as Michigan 1559-F, (hereinafter referred to as project) to be constructed by the Regents of the University of Michigan, a Constitutional Corporation, to employees in each trade or occupation engaged in work of a nature similar to the work to be performed in the construction of said project, and the prevailing hourly wage rates being paid in such locality to such employees for such work has been determined by comparison with rates being paid on similar Public Works Administration projects, in particular on the addition to the High School building in Ann Arbor, Michigan, under a Public Works Administration grant, now therefore, be it Resolved, By the Regents of the University of Michigan, a Constitutional Corporation with principal offices in Ann Arbor, Michigan, that the prevailing hourly wage rates (i.e. the customary local wage rates) being paid in the building trades of Ann Arbor, Michigan, to employees in each trade or occupation engaged in work of a nature similar to the work to be performed in the construction of said project is hereby determined to be as follows for each respective trade or occupation:Trade Rate per Hour 1.
