JULY MEETING, 1938 603 Music, has recommended, and the committee approved the recommendation, that the amount remaining in the salary originally allocated to Professor Pratt, namely, $2,916.68, be used to engage guest carillonneurs until a permanent appointment can be made. Further, the committee appointed Mr. Frank Percival Price, Dominion Carillonneur at the Peace Tower, Parliament Building, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, for the period from September 20 to October 30, 1938, with compensation of $1,110 for the period. June 22, 1938 Present, President Ruthven, Regent Beal, and Regent Shields. On recommendation of the committee consisting of Dr. Robbins, Assistant to the President, the Librarian, and the Dean of the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies, the Michigan Press Association was added to the list of organizations to which the University pays dues. It is understood that the dues of $20 a year are to be charged to the Current account of the Department of Journalism. June 23, 1938 Present, President Ruthven, Regent Beal, and Regent Shields. On recommendation by Dean James B. Edmonson, the committee granted leave of absence, without salary, for the University year 1938-1939 to Edgar G. Johnston, Associate Professor of Secondary Education and Principal of the University High School, to permit him to accept a position as field worker with the Co-operative Study of Secondary Schools Standards for that period. This action necessitates no addition to the Salary budget of the School of Education. June 23, 1938 Present, President Ruthven, Regent Beal, and Regent Shields. The committee, on recommendation by the President, appointed the following to membership in the Executive Committee of the Institute of Public and Social Administration (p. 528): Professor Arthur B. Moehlman, July 1, 1938, to June 30, 1941 Assistant Professor Edgar M. Hoover, Jr., July 1, 1938, to June 30, 1940 Professor Arthur W. Bromage, July 1, 1938, to June 30, 1939 June 24, 1938 Present, President Ruthven, Regent Beal, and Regent Shields. On recommendation by the Executive Committee of the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, Professor Dwight L. Dumond was granted leave of absence with full salary for a six-weeks period, beginning February 4, 1939, to permit him to accept an invitation from the University College of the University of London, to give a series of eight lectures on the history of the Civil War. It is understood that Professor Dumond will pay from his own salary the cost of a satisfactory substitute to carry on his work during his absence, so that no addition to the budget will be necessitated by this action. The committee, on recommendation of the Alumni Association, approved the elections of the following officers of the Alumni Association for the terms named: R. Spencer Bishop, '08, Flint, President, for two years, beginning June 16, 1938 Christian F. Matthews, '19, '211, Mt. Clemens, Vice-President, for one year, beginning June 16, 1938 Marie Winsor Stebbins, '06, Marshall, Vice-President, for one year, beginning June 16, 1938 Louis P. Jocelyn, '87, Ann Arbor, Secretary, for one year, beginning June 16, 1938 In addition, the Executive Committee of the Alumni Association was named as follows, all for one year, beginning June 16, 1938: Alexander G. Ruthven, President of the University, ex officio R. Spencer Bishop, President of the Alumni Association, ex officio Emory J. Hyde, '041, Director Christian F. Matthews, '19, '211, Director Shirley W. Smith, '97, A.M. '00 James B. Edmonson, '06, A.M. '10 Lewis M. Gram, 'Oie June 30, 1938 Present, the President, Regent Shields, and Regent Beal. The committee authorized carrying over whatever balance there may be, presumably not over $350, from this year's traveling expense account of the
