568 ANNUAL JUNE MEETING, 1938 From the American Council of Learned Societies, the sum of $1,000 for fellowships and study aids for study of Chinese and Japanese languages at the Institute of Far Eastern Studies during the summer of 1938 (p. 237) From the American Council of Learned Societies, the sum of $350 for payment of ten tuition scholarships of $35 each in connection with the Linguistic Institute during the summer of 1938 From the American Council of Learned Societies the sum of $500 to be used in part payment of ten $100 scholarships for work in the course in practical semantics. It is understood that the University will contribute a like amount for this purpose, and the necessary sum of $500 is included in the budget of the Early Modern English Dictionary. Each person receiving one of these scholarships will receive $50 at the time of the award from the funds provided by the American Council of Learned Societies and $50 at the completion of his work from the funds of the Early Modern English Dictionary. From the Linguistic Society of America, the sum of $65 to be used to bring lecturers to Ann Arbor in the summer of 1938 to lecture on linguistic topics in connection with the Linguistic Institute. Any portion of this check remaining unused is to be returned to the Linguistic Society of America (p. 278). From the University School of Music Alumni Association, through Mrs. Minnie Davis Sherrill, Detroit, the sum of $235.89 for the Elsa Gardner Stanley Scholarship fund (R.P. 1932-1936, p. 140). Since the gift was originally presented to the University in May 1933, additions in the sums of $235.89, $471.78, and $80 have been made to this scholarship, although record was not made in the Proceedings. From Mr. Shintaro Fukushima, 500 Fifth Avenue, New York City, through Professor Robert B. Hall, the sum of $60 for the purchase of books on Japanese language and literature for use in the Institute of Far Eastern Studies From Station WJR, Detroit, through its Vice-President and General Manager, Mr. Leo Fitzpatrick, gift of radio equipment valued at approximately $7,500 with an additional donation of facilities and time, the commercial value of which is estimated by Professor Waldo Abbot at over $35,000 William Harris Wynne, Ph.D., was appointed Associate Professor of Economics for the academic year 1938-1939 with salary of $4,200, to care for the work of Professor Charles F. Remer, absent on leave (p. 503). In accordance with the recommendation of the Dean of the Medical School Certificates of Proficiency in their respective departments were voted to the following physicians (p. 281): SURGERY Urology Rigdon K.
