554 ANNUAL JUNE MEETING, 1938 The following contracts, supplemental contracts, and purchase orders made or accepted by the Department of Engineering Research were placed on record (p. 544): Contracts With the Hoover Ball and Bearing Company, Ann Arbor, for work on effect of temperature on greases in bearings; at an estimated cost of $50 for installation work and an average of $75 a month With the Baldwin Rubber Company, Pontiac, for investigation of three rubber composition plastics; at an estimated cost of $500 Supplements With The Dow Chemical Company, for development of nonaqueous heating medium to replace high-pressure steam, Project M165; at no increase in cost, only an extension of time (p. 463) With the Doehler Die Casting Company, for study of problems related to operation of die-casting machines; at an estimated cost of $750 (p. 434) With the Calcium Chloride Association, for study of gravel losses on untreated roads and roads treated with calcium chloride; at an estimated cost of $1,000 (R.P. 1932-1936, p. 544) With the Cobre Minerals Corporation, for development of an insulating material, Project M167; at an estimated cost of $140 (p. 487) With The Dow Chemical Company, for study of causes of corrosion of dry-cleaners' machinery, Project 1M87; at an estimated cost of $600 (p. 101) With The Dow Chemical Company, for study of theory of evaporator design, Pro-,ject M151; at an estimated cost of $600 (p. 433) With The Timken Steel and Tube Division of The Timken Roller Bearing Company, for determination of properties of steels for high-temperature applications, Project 842; at an estimated cost of $2,369.97 (p. 355) Purchase Orders From the Jessop Steel Company, Washington, Pennsylvania, for determination by vacuum-fusion analysis of oxygen and nitrogen in four specimens of annealed rolled plates; at an estimated cost of $20 per set of determinations, or a total of $80 From the Pennsylvania Salt Manufacturing Company, Wyandotte, for physical tests on a chlorine valve; at an estimated cost of $25. No limit is set in the order. From Universal-Cyclops Steel Corporation, for tensile strength and physical property determinations on one piece of Cyclops #17-W from heat E-494 at 1500~ F. and a creep-strength determination at 1200~ F. on another piece of the same metal; at an estimated cost of $100 From Ford Motor Company, for sound-level indicator in connection with Project 1M36; at an estimated cost of $1,800 From Pennsylvania Salt Manufacturing Company, for fabrication of one arc stand; at an estimated cost of $350 From H. H. Nickolson, Boulder, Colorado, for tests of circular rotating wings in the wind tunnel; at an estimated cost of $100 Assistant Secretary Watkins reported for record the receipt of reissue #20683 in place of original Letters Patent #1980966 for improvement in substituted alkylphenols and methods of producing the same (p. 65). The following gifts were reported and accepted by the Regents in accordance with their terms and conditions and with a vote of thanks to each donor: From The Dow Chemical Company, a fellowship in Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering for 1938-1939, with stipend of $600 to the Fellow plus $150 for equipment necessary. P. W. Bakarian, B.S., was appointed to The Dow Chemical Company Fellowship for the year mentioned. From the Upjohn Company, Kalamazoo, the sum of $2,700 to provide for the Upjohn Fellowship in Surgical Research for the twelve months following September 1, 1938. Don LeDuc, M.D., was appointed to the Upjohn Fellowship in Surgical Research for the period stated. From the Upjohn Company, Kalamazoo, the sum of $4,800 to continue the two Upjohn Fellowships in Clinical Research (pp. 338 and 326). William Dodd Robinson was appointed to replace Dr. Christopher Parnall, the present holder
