Leave of absence was granted, with full pay, to Dr. Richard Freyberg for the month of June, to permit him to attend a scientific
meeting in San Francisco.
Leave of absence for two months beginning April 16, 1938, with
full pay, on account of illness, was granted to Dr. Cyrus C. Sturgis
of the Medical School.
The Board authorized an invitation to the American Association of
Collegiate Schools of Business to hold its annual meeting in Ann Arbor
during the spring of 1929.
The President reported that the committee appointed at the
March meeting (p. 502) had, during the morning, held interviews
with representatives of unionized employees of the University Hospital
and the building custodians. Following the discussion it was the consensus of the Board that when employees could not reach agreement
through University officials in general charge of the departments of the
institution wherein the work was performed, the committee might hold
conferences with the ultimate object of reporting to the Regents the
sources of dissatisfaction, the requests, and all pertinent circumstances
involved.
Discussion was also had concerning the Ann Arbor Press matter
(p. 505), and there was informal agreement that pending the proceedings now in process before the National Labor Relations Board at
Washington, the relations with the Ann Arbor Press might remain in
status quo. It was understood that the Secretary of the Board had
been subpoenaed to appear before the National Labor Relations Board
in Washington May 2. The Board voted to ask Regent Hemans also to
go to Washington and be present at the hearing or at such portions
thereof as might seem to concern the University. Regent Hemans, who
had been delayed, entered during this discussion.
All of the above actions were by unanimous vote.
The Board adjourned to 4 P.M., Friday, May 27.
