518 APRIL MEETING, 1938 Reserve, and an annual contribution out of the same budget of $10 a year toward the maintenance, upkeep, and operation of such truck. The Edwin S. George Reserve will have the same protection that other rural interests in Unadilla Township, Livingston County, will have. April 8, 1938 Present, Regent Beal and Regent Shields. On recommendation by the Executive Committee of the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, the Committee granted leave of absence without salary for the University year 1938-1939 to Associate Professor Lewis B. Kellum of the Department of Geology, to permit him to accept an invitation from the Standard Vacuum Oil Company to direct and supervise its exploration program in New Zealand. April 20, 1938 Present, President Ruthven, Regent Beal, and Regent Shields. On recommendation of the Committee on the Henry Russel Award, the committee confirmed the selection of Dr. Franklin Davis Johnston, Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine, as the recipient of the Henry Russel Award for the year 1937-1938. The committee further approved the suggestion that the name of Dr. Edgar Malone Hoover, Jr., Assistant Professor of Economics, be placed on record as second choice. The stipend of the Award, as provided by the income of the Henry Russel endowment, is $200 (p. 422). NOTE. The stipend of the Henry Russel Lecturer recorded on p. 422 as $250 was also reduced, because of earnings shrinkage, to $200. Actions of the Operating Committee were approved and ratified in accordance with the minutes of the committee as follows (p. 485): March 8, 1938 With the approval of the Executive Committee of the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts and of Professor Robert C. Angell, Acting Chairman of the Department of Sociology, the committee transferred the sum of $200 from the Salary budget of the Department of Sociology to the Salary budget of the Department of Psychology, to provide funds for additional assistants for the second semester of the present University year. March 12, 1938 At the request of Dean Wells I. Bennett, the committee added the sum of $275 to the Salary budget of the College of Architecture to provide salary for the second semester of the present University year for Mary Case Dell, One-thirdtime Instructor in Freehand Drawing. March 28, 1938 Secretary Smith, acting for the committee in the absence of President Ruthven, approved the transfer of $500 from the Bureau of Business Research fund in the budget of the School of Business Administration to the Current account of the School of Business Administration to provide for necessary expenses for the remainder of the present fiscal year. April 21, 1938 At the request of Professor Waldo Abbot, the committee appropriated the sum of $50 as an addition to the Current account of the Bureau of Radio Broadcasting to provide funds for the purchase of filing cabinets. April 21, 1938 The committee on recommendation by the Executive Committee of the College of Engineering approved the following transfers to provide sufficient funds in the budget concerned for the remainder of the fiscal year: 1. From Dean's Fund, Engineering Administration, Salaries, to Aeronautical Engineering, Current, $200 2. From Engineering Administration, Apparatus and Furnishings, to Aeronautical Engineering, Current, $150 3. From Dean's Fund, Engineering Administration, Salaries, to Engineering Administration, Travel Expense, $200. April 21, 1938 At the request of Professor George E. Carrothers, Director of the Bureau of Cooperation with Educational Institutions, the committee approved the transfer of the sum of $75 from the Travel account to the Current account of the Bureau for the purchase of additional copies of A List of Selected Books for Secondary School Libraries (p. 433).
