486 MARCH MEETING, 1938 February 15, 1938 The committee appropriated as an addition to the Nonresident Lecture fund the sum of $175 to provide honoraria for several speakers who it is anticipated will appear under the auspices of the University during the remainder of the present University year. February 19, 1938 Present. the President and the Vice-President and Secretary. Mr. Silas Y. Cotton, Instrument Man in the Electrical Engineering Department, College of Engineering, at the salary of $1,750 a year, died January 9, and to replace him Mr. L. A. Null has been appointed (transferred from the Buildings and Grounds Department) at the same salary to date from February 3. In order to meet the routine payment to Mr. Cotton's widow and to take care of the salary of Mr. Null, an addition to the Electrical Engineering budget of $125 was required. As the whole procedure following the death of Mr. Cotton was in accordance with Regents' regulations, the committee appropriated this additional sum of $125. February 25, 1938 At the request of Dean Henry C. Anderson, the committee approved the following transfers of funds: 1. From Adm'nistrat'on, College of Engineering, Dean's Fund, $300 to the Mortimer E. Cooley Foundation of Engineering Organization Expense account (p. 444) 2. From Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering, Salaries, to Civil Engineering, Salaries, $190 3. From Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering, Salaries, to Aeronautical Engineering, Salaries, $50 4. From Mechanical Engineering, Salaries, to Aeronautical Engineering, Salaries, $100 The first action was taken so that active work may begin toward the interests of the Mortimer E. Cooley Foundation of Engineering, and the other three transfers were made to provide for salaries for assistants for the second semester of the present University year. March 7, 1938 At the request of Dean Yoakum the committee approved the transfer of the sum of $85 from the Expense and Equipment budget to the Salary budget of Research Project R No. 15 (p. 336). March 7, 1938 The committee approved the transfer of the sum of $50 from the Salary budget of the Department of Chmm'cal and MetallurgIcal Engineering to the Salary Ludget of the Department of Metal Processing to provi le, with funds now appearine in that [udget, a salary for a student assistant for the second semester of the present Unix Nrsity year. The following contracts, supplemental contracts, and purchase orders made or at cepted by the Department of Engineering Research were placed on retord (p. 463): Contracts With the Sodium Silicate Manufacturers Institute, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for research on use of sodium-silicate adhesives; at an estimated cost of $1,000 With the Ontario Refining Company, Copper Cliff, Ontario, for study of crystallization of nic'el sulphate: at an estimated cost of $660 With The International Nickel Company, New York City, for study of vacuum fusion research on steels; at an estimated cost of $2,000 Supplements With the Detroit Electric Furnace Comnany, for additional work in connection with studies of gun iron, Project IM92; at an estimated cost of $200 (p. 141) With The United States Graphite Company, for investigation of brushes; at an estimated cost of $1,000 (R.P. 1932-1936), p. 844) Purchase Orders From the Ford Motor Co' pany, for vacuum-fusion analyses; at an estimated cost of $125
