Proceedings of the Board of Regents (1936-1939)

470 FEBRUARY MEETING, 1938 The hospital buildings on Catherine Street were designated, from this date, as follows (R.P. 1923-1926, p. 888): Palmer Wards and Surgical Wards as West Hospital; Contagious Unit as Contagious Hospital; and Maternity Ward as Maternity Hospital. Assistant Secretary Watkins notified the Regents that Dr. F. F. Blicke, working under the Parke, Davis and Company Pharmaceutical Chemistry Grant for 1937-1938 (p. 356) has applied for a patent for his invention entitled "Aryl Amino Compounds." Application was made January 14, 1938. The Regents approved assignment by Dr. Blicke of this patent to the Regents and authorized in turn the President and the Secretary to execute, in behalf of the Regents, an exclusive license to Parke, Davis and Company to manufacture under the patent, the arrangement being similar to that between Frederick Stearns and Company, of Detroit, and the Regents in November, 1930 (R.P. 1929-1932, p. 493). Parke, Davis and Company, under the license, are to pay royalties to the University to a total of 5 per cent of all the product sold under the patent, these royalties to be divided half and half between Dr. Blicke and the College of Pharmacy, which will use its share for further research. The Regents requested an explanation of the fact that the extension to the University Health Service building, authorized in May, 1937 (p. 232) had exceeded the estimate of $5,000 by an additional sum of $1,604.57. The Regents declined to approve the request of James Mebane, a student, to register as a resident of Michigan. The Board disapproved the suggestion of the Lawyers Club that a firm be given quarters within the Lawyers Club for carrying on the business of cleaning and pressing clothing of the residents of the Club. An error having been made in the description of property conveyed to the City of Ann Arbor under authority given in November, 1930 (R.P. 1929-1932, p. 488), the Regents authorized execution by the President and the Secretary of a quit-claim deed, satisfactory to the City, conveying the following corrected description: Commencing at an iron pipe in the south line of Geddes Avenue 204.27 feet east of the northwest corner of Lot No. 1 of C. T. Wilmot's Addition to the City of Ann Arbor, thence deflecting to the right 88~ 10' a distance of 97.00 feet for a place of beginning: Thence deflecting to the left 88~ 10' for a distance of 59.7 feet to an iron pipe, thence deflecting to the right 67~ 20' for a distance of 38.63 feet to an iron pipe; thence deflecting to the right 73~ 39' for a distance of 4.64 feet to an iron pipe; thence deflecting to the right 37~ 02' a distance of 69.73 feet to the east line of Forest Avenue as now established; thence deflecting to the right and running along the east line of Forest Avenue a distance of 43 feet to the place of beginning. All of the above being parts of Lots No. 3, 4, and 7 of C. T. Wilmot's Addition to the City of Ann Arbor. The following gifts were accepted with a vote of thanks in each case to the donors: From Mr. Harold E. Sawyer, Assistant Astronomer at the McMath-Hulbert Observatory, the sum of $40 for the Lake Angelus Astronomical Support fund (p. 434) From the McGregor Fund through Judge Henry S. Hulbert, President, the sum of $1,600 for the Lake Angelus Astronomical Support fund (p. 434)
