412 DECEMBER MEETING, 1937 From the Mathieson Alkali Works, Inc., for analysis of two caustic samples; at an estimated cost of not over $100 From the Mathieson Alkali Works, Inc., for spectrographic analysis of caustic sample; at an estimated cost of less than $100 From the 0. and S. Bearing Company, for experimental filling machine; at an estimated cost of $500 From Detroit Aluminum and Brass Corporation, for spectroscopic examination of bearings; at an estimated cost of $50 Special From C. E. Carpenter, Vice-President of the National Automotive Fibres, Inc., authorization for billings against them in excess of $100 in any one month when work requested by this Company exceeds this sum in any one month (p. 141) The following gifts to the University for the purposes stated in each case were accepted, each in accordance with its terms and conditions and with the thanks of the Regents to each donor: From Mr. and Mrs. James Inglis of Ann Arbor, a check for $1,000 for the purchase of furnishings for Lane Hall. The fund has been designated: Lane Hall Furnishings. From the National Committee for Mental Hygiene, a grant of $1,600 made available by the Supreme Council, 33d Degree Scottish Rite Masons, Northern Jurisdiction, for the period from November 1, 1937, to November 1, 1938, to continue research in dementia praecox under the direction of Dr. Raymond W. Waggoner (p. 94). The first quarterly payment of $400 has been received. From Mr. Robert R. McMath of Detroit, a check for $1,000, a gift to him from Mr. Julius Stone of Columbus, Ohio, for the work of the Observatory at Lake Angelus, and endorsed over to the University by Mr. McMath to supplement the Lake Angelus Support fund From Mr. Charles Baird, a check for $100 to be used "for the charitable purpose of adding to the comfort and happiness of Hospital children at Christmas time." The check was received through Dr. Harley A. Haynes. The fund has been called the Charles Baird Christmas fund. From the Acheson Colloid Corporation of Port Huron, $1,000 to establish a fellowship in the Department of Chemistry, for research in colloid chemistry, for the current University year. A check for $500, payment for the first semester, has been received. The fellowship is to be called the Acheson Colloids Corporation Fellowship, and has been assigned to Harold Joseph Dawe, M.S. From Professor and Mrs. Harold H. Higbie of Ann Arbor, a check for $50 to constitute the Jane Higbie Award for 1937-1938 (p. 187) From Percival C. Lowery, D.D.S. '10, of Detroit, a proffer of $100 to establish the P. C. Lowery Award in Complete Denture Prosthesis, for the University year 1937-1938, to be paid on or before June 1, 1938. Dr. Lowery has indicated a purpose to duplicate this grant yearly for an indefinite period. From the Omega Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa, $800 to be used "to promote the publication of the studies of graduate students in Education...." The fund is to be known as the Phi Delta Kappa Gift for Educational Monograph Series. The funds will be forthcoming upon notification of the acceptance of the grant by the Regents. From former Governor and former Regent Chase S. Osborn, a check for $350 to cover the cost of casting a bronze bust by Mr. Carleton Angell From Dr. S. Rudolph Light, '04, Detroit, $650 in two checks of $350 and $300 each, to establish a fellowship in the amount of $350 in the Department of Botany for the remainder of the current University year and continuing through the summer of 1938. The check for $300 is to cover expenses in connection with the fellowship and is to be expended under the direction of the Department of Botany. Harley H. Bartlett, Chairman of the Department of Botany, has asked that the fellowship be called the S. Rudolph Light Fellowship in Botany, and has named LeRoy Hatfield Harvey, M.S., as the recipient. From the Board of Governors of the Adelia Cheever House the sum of $107.28 to be placed in the Mary B. Goddard Loan fund (R.P. 1932-1936, p. 83).
