SECOND MAY MEETING, 1939

The Regents directed that Miss Osborn be notified that the Board
accepted with thanks the proposals made by her, with assurance that
should the contingent gift in due course materialize it would be used in
accordance with the terms and conditions set forth in her letter.
The Board authorized carrying over into 1939-1940 the unexpended
balance of somewhat less than $100 now in the Salary account of the
Middle English Dictionary Committee.
The Board approved and confirmed appointment of the following
physicians as Extramural Lecturers in Postgraduate Medicine for the
period of one year, beginning April 1, 1939. There is no obligation on
the part of the University for compensation (p. 427):

The President notified The Regents that The Rockefeller Foundation had made available the sum of $1,100 as a contribution toward the
University's work in Latin-American Studies during the summer of
1939. The gift was accepted with thanks in accordance with its terms.
The Regents accepted, tentatively, pending the preparation of a
gift agreement mutually satisfactory, the offer of Mrs. Ruth R.
Metzger, of Detroit, of a sum of money to constitute the Nathan D.
Metzger Prize fund, the income of which is to be used annually as an
award to a student in the University who will write the best essay on
