SECOND APRIL MEETING, 1939 917 the Summer Session but actually taking work in the teachers colleges of the State, shall be a flat rebate or reduction of $15 for each student who has paid the full semester fee and a flat rebate of $5 for each student who has paid the full Summer Session fee (p. 627). Dr. F. F. Blicke, working under the Parke, Davis and Company Pharmaceutical Chemistry grant, has applied for a further patent (p. 470), the application being Serial No. 260,175, and has assigned the same to the University. The Regents approved an exclusive license to Parke, Davis and Company under this patent, the same as in the case of the preceding patent, herein cited. Page 854, Regents' Proceedings of February 24, 1939, was corrected, in accordance with the facts, by changing the last sentence on the page to read "The collection has been received and is to be in charge of the Department of Zoology." The Regents authorized the officers of the Board to enter into a contract with the Federal Arts Project for the purpose of erecting a monument to the late Dr. Willoughby D. Miller, once Dean of the School of Dentistry, the monument to be placed on University property adjacent to the dental buildings. The contract will involve the approximate sum of $1,000, which amount is guaranteed by the following committee: Dr. P. H. Jeserich, Dr. Dorothy G. Hard, Dr. E. L. Whitman, and Dean R. W. Bunting as Chairman. The Regents accepted with thanks a renewal by Parke, Davis and Company in the sum of $500 of the Parke, Davis and Company Pharmaceutical Chemistry Grant for work on local anesthetics, with an additional gift of $200 for a continuation of this research during the summer of 1939 (p. 567). Leave of absence from April 26 to May 31, 1939, with salary, and from June 1 to December 31 of the same year, without salary, because of serious illness, was granted to Miss E. Grace Holland, Voucher Clerk in the Order Department of the General Library. The following resolution was adopted: Resolved, That the action of Alexander G. Ruthven, as President, and Shirley W. Smith, as Secretary, in approving and accepting the following modification of agreement dated March 27, 1939 (Regents' Proceedings, p. 878) is approved and ratified by The Regents of the University of Michigan. Detroit, Michigan, April 18, 1939 The Regents of the University of Michigan, a body corporate, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Gentlemen: In accordance with the request of your representative, I hereby consent to the following modifications of the Agreement dated March 27, 1939, heretofore executed and delivered between me as Donor and your corporation as Donee, viz: A. The construction, operation, and maintenance of a restaurant and/or cafeteria as specified in Subdivision III, Section (g) of said Agreement shall not be mandatory but shall be subject at all times to the exercise of your discretion; provided, however, that if and when such a restaurant and/or cafeteria is operated or maintained, the members of The Engineering Society of Detroit shall have reasonable opportunity to use the same. B. It is understood that, at all times after the delivery to you or your representative of the bonds and securities described in Exhibit "A" attached to said Agreement, you shall have discretionary power and authority in the exercise of reasonable care to sell and dispose of any of such bonds and securities and of any reinvestments thereof and either hold the proceeds of such sales or dispositions or reinvest the same; provided, however, that if under the terms of Subdivisions IV. and/or V. of said Agreement you shall become obligated to surrender to me possession of and transfer to me title to the grant described therein, it is agreed that you may surrender possession of and
