SECOND FEBRUARY MEETING, 1939 855 The Regents approved the following, as recommended by Professor Wilber R. Humphreys in behalf of various contributors, as the terms and conditions to govern the fund thus far recorded (p. 828) as the Special Fellowship in English: The fund is to be known as the Louis A. Strauss Fellowship in English as a memorial to the late Professor Strauss. It is desired that, until further communication from donors or their representatives, contributions and interest earnings be accumulated until they reach a figure which as principal will earn a dignified stipend for a graduate student. Appointees would be known as Louis A. Strauss Fellows in English. The fund amounts at the date of this action to the sum of $1.277.56. More than fifty separate donors were reported as having contributed to date a total sum of $1,558.10 which they desired to have accepted as the Frederick M. Gaige Research fund, the income of which is to be used by the Director of the Museum of Zoology for the promotion or publication of research in that museum. This gift is to mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of Professor Gaige's connection with the staff of the Museum of Zoology. The Regents accepted the gift in accordance with its terms and conditions, including the direction that it be invested as a part of the Consolidated Endowment fund of the University. The Board accepted with thanks and in accordance with its terms and conditions a proposal from the W. K. Kellogg Foundation to contribute $3,300 a year for three years, beginning March 1, 1939. in support of a program of in-service training of rural teachers in elementary science and health. Further. The Regents appointed Vivian Drenckhahn, A.M., as Lecturer in Health Education for the duration of the project, to direct the program, at a salary of $3,300 a year. twelve-month basis. The Regents accepted from the Standard Oil Company of California the proffer of the sum of $800 for the University year 1939 -1940 to constitute a graduate fellowship in the Department of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering, in the field of petroleum production engineering, the fellowship to be known as the Standard Oil Company of California Fellowship.
