Proceedings of the Board of Regents (1936-1939)

First February Meeting, 1939 UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN, ANN ARBOR, FEBRUARY 8, 1939 The Board met in the Regents' Room at 3:35 P.M. Present, the President, Regent Beal, Regent Crowley, Regent Shields, Regent Lynch, Regent Cook, and Regent Cram. Absent, Regent Stone, Regent Hemans, and Superintendent Elliott. There were also present Dr. F. E. Robbins, Mr. H. G. Watkins, Vice-President Yoakum. Provost Stason, and the Secretary. Further, during the forepart of the meeting there were present Professor L. M. Gram and Mr. C. H. Hickey, Engineer of the Chicago Regional Office of the Public Works Administration. The following "Resolution Awarding Contract" was adopted (p. 822): Docket No. Mich. 1695-F WHEREAS, The Regents of the University of Michigan in the County of Washtenaw and the State of Michigan pursuant to an advertisement for bids on the construction of the proposed Dormitory for Women Students, herebefore published on the 14th, 21st, and 28th days of January, 1939, did on the 6th day of February, 1939, at 2:00 o'clock P.M., at its office in the City of Ann Arbor, Michigan, receive bids for the construction of a Dormitory for Women Students, which said bids were taken under advisement by The Regents of the University of Michigan: and WHEREAS, The base bid of Walbridge-Aldinger Co. for all trades, when reduced by the alternates taken in sequence specified, to-wit: Alternates 1 to 6, inclusive, is the lowest bid submitted by any responsible bidder; Base Bid All Trades-Walbridge-Aldinger Co. $758,397 Less Alternate No. 1..................$ 2,882 Less Alternate No. 2.................. 2,264 Less Alternate No. 3.................. 5,756 Less Alternate No. 4.................. 2,753 Less Alternate No. 5.................. 5,895 Less Alternate No. 5A................. 1,000 Less Alternate No. 5B................. 2,400 Less Alternate No. 5C.............. 3,300 Less Alternate No. 6.................. 20,722 46,972 $ 711,425 Contracts previously awarded................. 2,470 Available for contingencies.................... 36,840 Equipment................................. 120,000 Preliminary expense......................... 1,000 Land, rights-of-way......................54,250 Engineering and architectural................. 47,000 Legal, administration......................... 6,000 Interest during construction................... 21,015 Miscellaneous cost.......................... xxx $1,000,000 Funds available-Government......... $450,000 Applicant's funds.................... 550,000 And WHEREAS, The Architect and the University Building Committee have recommended that the contract for all trades, in the amount of $711,425, be awarded to Walbridge-Aldinger Co.
