Proceedings of the Board of Regents (1914-1917)

MARCH MEETING, 1917 7I3 AFTERNOON SESSION The Board reassembled at 2 P. M. Present, the President, Regent Leland, Regent Beal, Regent Sawyer, Regent Clements, Regent Hanchett, and Regent Gore. Absent, Regent Hubbard, Regent Bulkley, and Superintendent Keeler. Regent Gore reported for the Committee to which had been referred the matter of salary of Professor Ralph Aigler (see page 693). On motion of Regent Leland, the Board voted that the action of the Committee in increasing the salary of Professor Aigler for I917-1918 be concurred in. On motion.of Regent Clements, the Board voted that the other salaries recommended by the above named Committee, be referred to the Budget Committee, with the favorable recommendation of the Board. On this action the vote was as follows:-Aye, Regent Beal, Regent Sawyer, Regent Clements, Regent Hanchett, and Regent Gore. Not voting, Regent Leland. On motion of Regent Sawyer, the Board referred to the Budget Committee a request from the Medical Director and Superintendent of the University Hospital for an allowance of $4,500 to provide an addition to the Internes' Home at the I-ospital, with an estimated additional expense of $900 for furniture, and of $2,600 for the estimated yearly cost of maintenance of ten additional internes. The Secretary reported that the proceedings required to convey under merchantable title the property in which the Phillips Scholarship fund had been invested, were going ahead (see page 686). On motion of Regent Leland, the Board adopted the following resolution:Resolved, That when the sale of the Phillips Scholarship property in Philadelphia is completed the proceeds thereof shall be reinvested by the proper University authorities to the end of carrying out all the provisions of the trust created by the will of Mr. Phillips (see page 103). On motion of Regent Sawyer, the Board directed that the University flag be placed at half-mast in case of the death of any University officer or when ordered by the Executive Committee of the Regents (see page 671).
