Proceedings of the Board of Regents (1914-1917)

FEBRUARY MEETING, 1917 699 On motion of Regent Beal, the leave of absence, without salary, of Dr. Paul W. Merrill, of the Department of Astronomy, was continued for the University year I9I7 -I918 in accordance with a request received from Professor Hussey of that Department. On motion of Regent Clements, the Board set aside the sum of $825 out of which the Secretary was authorized to purchase an equipment of dictating machines for the offices of the President, the Superintendent of Grounds, and the Secretary. On motion of Regent Leland, the Board granted the request of Professor Gleason, Director of the Botanical Garden, that the sum of $I,ooo appropriated for outdoor planting and still remaining in the Botanical Garden budget might be carried over to the year I917-I918. The Secretary called attention to the fact that a considerable portion of the University's insurance policies would expire on March 21, next. On motion of Regent Sawyer, this matter was referred to Regent Clements and the Secretary, with power. On motion of Regent Leland, the Board declined to consider Mr. Raymond M. Dell and Miss Mary Bonner as eligible to registration as Michigan students. On motion of Regent Bulkley, the Board named Regent Clements, Regent Sawyer, Regent Leland, and Regent Hanchett as Regent members of the Board of Trustees of the State Psychopathic Hospital for the present calendar year. On motion of Regent Sawyer, following recommendation of the Board of Governors of the Martha Cook Building, the Regents elected Miss Grace Millard as a member of that Board to succeed herself for the term of three years to date from January', I917. Dean Cooley communicated to the Board the fact that the following gifts had been received by the College of Engineering:A handsome line of experimental apparatus for the study of electro-magnets. From Mr. C. R. Underhill, Acme Wire Company, New Haven, Connecticut. A handsome equipment of elevator-control apparatus. From Mr. P. R. Foreman, Electro-Pneumatic Company, 515 Laflin Street, Chicago, Illinois.
