of seeds, was referred to the Budget Committee for consideration.
On motion of Regent Leland, the Board declined to consider Ralph H. Howard as a resident of Michigan for the
purposes of registration.
On motion of Regent Leland, following a communication from the Village Clerk of Mayville requesting an
analysis of four samples of oil for the village municipal
light and water plant, the Board directed that such work
should be done for municipalities at cost to the University.
On motion of Regent Hubbard, the Board allowed the
sum of $54.20 to cover the traveling expenses of Associate
Professor Walter Fishleigh while in attendance at the annual meeting of the Society of Automobile Engineers in
New York City, January 9, Io, and II.
A communication was received from Mr. W. B. Shaw,
General Secretary of the Alumni Association, stating that
the Alumni Association had at some expense acquired a
number of reels of motion pictures showing various phases
of University life. The Association had intended to send
out these reels to high schools, alulni associations, and
other local bodies at a rental charge of $io and the cost of
transportation. It had been intended to raise, ultimately,
the expense of the films through this rental charge, but the
charge itself had proved a barrier to the use of the films
by schools and other local organizations. The Alumni Secretary asked whether the University would not in view of
the publicity value assume this rental charge until the
original cost of the film, about $400, had been met. On
motion of Regent Leland, the Board agreed to this proposal and authorized the payment of such rentals from time
to time as the facts might justify.
The Board proceeded to consider the pamphlet presenting the needs of the University to the Legislature, as authorized at the January meeting (see page 662). Before
this consideration was completed, adjournment was taken
for lunch.
