JUNE MEETING, 1916 479 Further, on motion of Regent ieal, the Board authorized the following additions to the Department of Physics:One Assistant Professor............................$I,700 Two Instructors at $I,ooo each..................... 2,000 One A ssistant...................................... 600 One A ssistant...................................... 300 On motion of Regent Beal, Mr. F. L. Schneider was appointed as Instructor in English in the Colleges of Engineering and Architecture, at the salary of $IIoo, vice Glen D. Bradley, resigned. On motion of Regent Clements, the Board laid upon the table the request of Professor Tealdi that the amount remaining in the current expense budget of Landscape Design at the end of the present year should be carried over into I916-I9i7. On motion of Regent Beal, the Board added a Teaching Assistant at $40), for the University year 1916-I9I7, to the Department of General and Physical Chemistry. On motion of Regent Hubbard, the Board laid upon the table a communication from Dean Coolev relative to advertising in the Spanish-American edition of The World's WIor k. On motion of Regent Beal, Mr. Fred E. Clark was appointed as Instructor in Commerce and Industry for the University year 1916-I917, at the salary of $1400. Mr. Clark's appointment is to take the place of Professor E. D. Jones, on leave. On motion of Regent Beal, the Board promoted Assistant Professor George W. Dowrie of the Economics Department to the rank of Associate Professor, with compensation of $2400 annually. A communication was received urging the desirability of appointing an instructor to give technical courses in methods of social betterment. On motion of Regent Beal, in view of the financial situation of the University the Board voted that this request for establishing new work could not be considered for the year 1916-I917. (n motion of Regent Beal, the leave of absence of Dr. L. H. Cone, Associate Professor of Organic Chemistry, was continued for the year I916-1917, on the expectation that Dr. Cone would return to the University in 19I7-1918.
