About the construction
- Description
- Side gabled, Colonial Revival style house. Two story side gabled section to west, with a one and a half story wing to the east. Wing has a gabled dormer in the center front, and a full width porch that is now enclosed. The north and east facades have identical rectangular bays on the first story. Each bay has a large single pane window with a narrow rectangular multipane, stained glass window above, and an area of decorative wood paneling above that. Remaining windows are primarily three vertical panes over one. Two and a half car, shed roof garage at rear.
- Date Of Construction
- 1880 ca.
- Context
- This house does not fit well into a style category. The side gabled, two story section is an odd pairing with a wing. Also the wing seems to be out of proportion for the two story section. It could be an older house updated with Colonial Revival details, or a very early Colonial Revival house. Further research is needed to establish. William Larzelere lived in the house in 1914. Francis Gould and his wife, Sarah, owned the house 1920-1926. Charles Carven owned it in 1927, and his wife, Julia, inherted after his death in 1934. Bessie Collins, their daughter, owned the house at least 1941-1947. Bessie Collins owned several other properties in Saline, but lived in this house. She was a well known local historian.
