- Autumn Moon at Mt. Dongting
- Artist
- Wu Qingyun (Wu Ch'ing-yun)
- Physical Description
- Dark, wet ink wash and light accents of color capture the lyrical mood of an autumnal moonlit night at Lake Tai and Mount Dongting. A round moon hangs low in the sky at top right, with a diffuse glow slightly brightening the clouds and sky below. Two islands sit in the water below, the larger (closer) of the two has four boats moored just offshore. Up close the boats appear as freely brushed lines, and yet at a distance, their forms come into focus. A building sits on the closer island, light shining in the windows. The silhouette of a pagoda can be seen on the further island.

- Physical Description
- This landscape painting shows rounded green mountains receding into the distance and soft sunlight streaming through billowy white clouds. In the foreground, painted in tones of dark brown and green, there is a rocky formation and a small waterfall formed by a stream passing over the rocks. One tall tree with lush greenery stands on the far left and a smaller tree frames the scene on the right. In the central part of the painting there is a stone house and pond. A few figures are scattered in this grassy area and someone stands in the open doorway of the house. The background shows a wide valley extending into the distance. - Nagoya-style Obi with wax-resist overall pattern of crackled pink-on-white, interrupted by wax-resist and embroidered designs of colorful tropical orchids
- Artist
- Minagawa Gekka
- Physical Description
- The obi is made of satin damask silk woven with “flower in tortoise-shell” patterns. “Cracked ice” pattern in red is dyed with wax-resist technique. Orchid flowers, leaves, ginger leaves, and ferns are hand painted in white, yellow, black, red, and green. Silver threads are embroidered in the rim of orchid flowers and other plants; more colored metallic and velvet threads are applied. The “cracked ice” patterns are broader adjacent to plants and red dye outlines them; that suggests that the artist designed flowers and foliage before the wax-resist application. The plant designs are located on two parts of the obi; when wearing, one will appear in front, and other will appear on the back bow.
