- Title
- Leaf from a Gradual with St. Lawrence
- Artist
- Ludovico de Gaci
- Physical Description
- This leaf from a manuscript contains seven lines of Latin text with musical notation. The initial letter, "C," of the opening word "Confessio" is made from a curved vegetal form. The text is preceded by a painted miniature in a circular frame that is, in turn, enclosed by a golden square. The miniature depicts a man with a tonsure and a golden halo standing in a verdant landscape. He holds a palm leaf in his left hand and rests his right hand on a grill. The left and upper margins of the page are decorated with green and pink leaves and flowers and small gold circles.

The wall, pitcher, parts of the woman’s head and shoulder covering and bodice, and cash register have been modeled in stylized “half tone” of zigzag separating white and black; shadows take the form of dense curlicues. The tablecloth bears splotches of black ink that were possibly made by blowing air on wet ink through a straw. The map has been filled in with ink drips and splatters.

- Buddha, seated in the ardha padmasana pose, in bhumisparsa mudra (Chieng Sen style)
- Artist
- Artist Unknown, Thailand
- Physical Description
- The Buddha in bhumisparsa mudra (the gesture of touching the earth with his right hand, palm inward), signaling his victory over Mara. In Southeast Asian contexts, this hand gesture is often referred to as Maravijaya mudra, or "victory over Mara." The Buddha’s elongated earlobes refer to his early life as a prince, when he wore heavy earrings. Texts that describe how a Buddha’s face should look often use comparisons to natural forms such as eyes like lotus petals, eyebrows like an archer’s bow, and a chin like a mango stone. The artist who created this sculpture clearly followed similar instructions.

- Artist Unknown, Japan
- Physical Description
- It is a bronze incense burner with a long handle. The circular bowl is a brazier, in which incense is burnt in Shinto rituals. The brazier has a fluted mouth and double-lines on the outside body. A circular foot, in a chrysanthemum shape, is attached to the brazier. There is a support that connects between the brazier and the foot. The brazier’s lid has an intricate openwork design of lotus flower scrolls with a knob in the shape of a lotus bud. The rim has an incised, stylized design of clouds. The mounting between the brazier and the handle is in the shape of Buddhist jewel with two semi-precious stones. The handle has carved lotus flower scrolls, and the end of which is bent at a right angle and joined to a round pedestal. Rising from the pedestal is a small statue of a lion on a lotus-shape pedestal, which serves as a knob handgrip when the incense burner is held.

- Buddha, seated in the padmasana pose, in bhumisparsa mudra
- Artist
- Artist Unknown, Tibet or Nepal
- Physical Description
- A hollow cast bronze sculpture of the Buddha, including a lotus base. The bronze has a dark, shiny patina over most of its surface.
- The Buddha sits with his legs crossed in the padmasana pose; his right hand reaches down, palm inwards, to touch the earth, in an elegant gesture with just the tip of his third finger making contact, while his right hand rests in his lap. His torso is tall and erect. His dhoti (a skirt-like garment) is tied high on his torso, while his outer robe covers his left shoulder completely and just brushes against his right shoulder. His face is shaped like a tall and narrow "U," with wide, gently arching brows, downcast eyes under swelling lids, a long and high nose, and full, cupid's-bow lips. The urna, an auspicious mark on his forehead, is indicated here by a small bump with an incised outline. His hair is arranged in rows of snail-shell curls, which are repeated in a larger size on his ushnisha, culminating in a lotus bud.
- The upward-pointing lotus petals on the dais are in high relief, with curling tips.

- Christ Healing the Deaf-Mute
- Artist
- Philippe de Champaigne
- Physical Description
- This painting depicts a river passing through a wooded landscape as human figures, dwarfed by the towering trees, move along its banks. The majestic landscape dominates the painting, but a group of four men in the right foreground also competes for attention since the bright, saturated primary colors of their robes stand out sharply against the muted tonalities of their surroundings. One of the men, wearing a blue cloak, places his left finger in the mouth of a man kneeling before him and touches the side of his head with his right hand. A third man leans forward to touch the kneeling figure's shoulder while the fourth, in a magnificent red cloak, raises his hands in astonishment.

- Unidentified Buddhist Goddess with eight arms and three heads, with base
- Artist
- Artist Unknown, Tibet or Nepal
- Physical Description
- A miniature figure of a tantric goddess, very finely cast by the cire perdue (lost wax) method. The goddess is shown seated in lalitasana pose ("royal ease," one knee bent and the other relaxes) on a lotus dais, which is separately cast. She has 8 arms which are in variants of vitarka mudra (the gesture of teaching). She has three heads, with the two lateral heads seen here as partial profiles; each wears the five-petal tiara of Tibetan Buddhist ritual. Her skirt is unusual, looking to be made of leaves, instead of the usual dhoti. Her hair is painted blue and her lips red.

- Physical Description
- A suberply cast hollow bronze figure of Tara, a Buddhist goddess, shown leated in the lalitasana pose ("royal ease," with one knee bent and the other relaxed), her right hand extended to her right knee in vara mudra (the gesture of charity), and her left hand in vitarka mudra (the gesture of teaching, with the thumb and third finger brought together). She wears a dhoti and jewelry, including an elaborate tiara and enormous lotus-petal design ear plugs. Her face has a broad, open forehead, with wide, slightly arching brows; her eyes are downcast with "s"-shaped upper lids; her nose is straight and long, and her mouth, in a curved Cupid's bow shape, is small but full. Her torso leans slightly to her left, which is balanced by the right tilt of her head. She sits on a double lotus dais with beaded upper and lower rims.
