(a) To happen, occur, come about; also, become (of sb.), happen (to sb.); ben tidde; (b) to befall (sb.); come to (sb., both body and soul, etc.); ben tidde; (c) to be the lot or fate of (sb.); also, await (sb.); (d) ~ what ~, ~ what (so) bitide, ~ the what bitide, etc., come what may; ~ so what, what so ~, whatever may happen.
