Burning by fire or hot liquid; an injury from scalding water; also, a place on the body that has been scalded by hot liquid or fire, a burn; (b) an inflammation; also, an inflamed place on the body; (c) the action of cleaning meat carcasses by the use of exceedingly hot water; also fig.; (d) a carcass of a sheep that has been scalded; also, the skin of such a sheep [quot.: 1429]; also, ?the carcass of a suckling pig [quot.: 1415]; (e) ~ bord, ?a table used in scalding poultry or meat carcasses; ~ hous, a building or place used for scalding meat carcasses, poultry, etc.; (f) in place names & street names.
