Governor Swann replied on the same day: ``Have sent for Mr Cresswell Will telegraph again as soon as I hear from him & will see you as requested'' (DLC-RTL). John A. J. Creswell had been elected to the Senate to fill the vacancy left by death of Senator Thomas H. Hicks on February 14, 1865. See the memorandum concerning Maryland appointments, March 9, supra.
