Annotation

[1]   AES, DNA NR RG 48, Department of Interior, Appointments, Indian Agencies, Box 73. Lincoln's endorsement appears on a petition from the Union members of the Dakota legislative assembly, endorsed by Walter A. Burleigh, delegate in congress, and others, asking appointment of Joseph R. Hanson as agent of the Upper Missouri Indian Agency. Hanson seems not to have been appointed; Samuel N. Latta is listed as agent in the U.S. Official Register for both 1863 and 1865.
