[1]   AES, DNA NR RG 48, Department of Interior, Appointments, Indian Agencies, Box 62. Lincoln's endorsement appears on a letter from James H. Lane, Sidney Clarke, and Samuel J. Crawford, March 7, 1865, recommending F. W. Potter of Burlington, Kansas, for agent of the Kansas Indians. No record of Potter's appointment has been found.
