Annotation

[1]   ES, DNA NR RG 48, Applications, Indian Agencies, New Mexico, Box 1267. Written by John Hay and signed by Lincoln, the endorsement is on a letter from John P. Usher, acting secretary, July 31, 1862, recommending that Levi J. Keithly of New Mexico be appointed ``in the place vacated by Judge [William F. M.] Arny.'' Arny was appointed secretary of New Mexico, and Keithly took his place as agent at the Utah Agency in New Mexico.
