memorandum on it which you see on the back of it,3Jump to section and left it. Last night they returned it to me, with no other answer, than the pencil notes at the top and bottom of it, which you see.4Jump to section I return the letter, because I suppose you will understand their notes better by seeing them, than you could by my writing about them. [2] Kellogg wrote on April 4, asking Lincoln to ascertain why he had not heard from the patent office in regard to two deeds sent for recording---the deeds being from William Wilcox to S.M. Whipple for the right of Colburn's Improved Iron Pump to several states and territories.
