We the undersigned, having examined Stanislaus P. LaLumiere, touching his qualification to practice law, do recommend that he be allowed a license for the same. A. LINCOLN.

[1] ADS, Marquette University. Accompanying the recommendation is the license issued by Samuel H. Treat and the oath signed by Lalumiere. Following a term as clerk of the United States Court in Springfield, Lalumiere went to St. Louis, Missouri, to take a similar position. While there he entered the novitiate of the Society of Jesus, and upon being ordained priest in 1857, was sent to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he later founded Marquette University.
