Resolution Introduced in Illinois Legislature Concerning Teachers' Examinations1Jump to section

[December 2, 1840]

Resolved, that the Committee on Education be instructed to enquire into the expediency of providing by law for the examination,

as to their qualifications, of persons offering themselves as School-teachers, and that no teacher shall receive any part of the Public School Funds, who shall not have successfully passed such examination; and that they report by Bill or otherwise.

Annotation

[1]   AD, I-Ar. Several attempts to amend failed, and the resolution was adopted as written. This became Section 81 of the act organizing and maintaining common schools as ultimately passed. (See Laws of Illinois, 1841, pp. 259-87.)
