Annotation

[1]   D, I-Ar. The receipt appears on the bottom of an order by William Prentiss, Secretary of the Board of Public Works, directing that one hundred dollars be allowed to Strong and fifty dollars to Lincoln for professional services rendered the board. Lincoln's name was signed, apparently, by Strong, a Springfield attorney with whom we infer Lincoln must have collaborated. The nature of the services has not been discovered. A similar document may be found in Auditor's records, State of Illinois.
